Official description of the call

First. Beneficiaries. The natural person inventor, of Spanish nationality or legal residence in Spain, who appears as such in an application for a national patent or utility model that does not claim foreign priority, granted by the SPTO, under the protection of Law 24/2015, of July 24, on Patents, in the year 2022, may be a beneficiary of the prize, and must be up to date with the payments of the relevant fees. In the event that an invention has several inventors, only one of them may be nominated. In the event that two or more applications are submitted relating to the same invention, only the first application received in the registry will be admitted. Candidacies may be submitted by natural or legal persons, public or private, as long as reference is made to a patent or utility model granted in the terms established in this call. The person applying for the candidacy may be the inventor himself or another natural or legal person. Second. Object. Announce the Third Edition of the Awards for the Best Invention Protected by Industrial Property Rights. The purpose of these awards is to distinguish the protection of research results through patents and utility models granted in 2022. Third. Regulatory Bases. Order ICT/861/2021, of August 3, which approves the regulatory bases for the granting of awards for the best invention protected by industrial property rights by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office, O.A. https://www.boe.es/eli/es/o/2021/08/03/ict861 Fourth. Amount. The awards are divided into the following categories: a) Best Patent (absolute category). Financial award: winner, 4,000 euros. b) Best Patent for a young inventor (less than 40 years old on the date of filing the patent application). Financial award: winner, 4,000 euros. c) Best Patent by a woman inventor. Financial award: winner, 4,000 euros. d) Best Utility Model (absolute category). Financial award: winner, 2,500 euros. e) Best utility model for a young inventor (less than 40 years old on the date of submission of the utility model application). Financial award: winner, 2,500 euros. f) Best Utility Model of a woman inventor. Financial award: winner, 2,500 euros. If the jury so deems it, once the winning candidates have been decided, a special mention may be made in each of the categories to those candidates that, without reaching the level of recognition of the winning proposal, deserve a special assessment. Each of these special mentions will be awarded a financial amount that will be 2,000 euros for the patent categories and 1,000 euros for the utility model categories. The prizes awarded to the winning candidates in each of the categories, as well as the special mentions that are considered, will be financed with a maximum of 28,500 euros, charged to budget item 20,102,421N,485 of the OEPM expense budget. Fifth. Application submission deadline. This resolution will be published in the National Subsidies Database (BDNS) and an extract thereof in the "Official State Gazette", in accordance with the provisions of article 23.2 and points 4 and 8 of article 20 of Law 38/2003, of November 17. The deadline for submitting applications will be one month from the day following the publication of the extract of this resolution in the "Official State Gazette." Sixth. Other data. The presentation of the candidacy, accompanied by the corresponding documentation, must be carried out through the electronic headquarters of the OEPM (https://sede.oepm.gob.es) using the registration form that appears there.
