Official description of the call

Order APA/379/2023, of April 8, published in the Official State Gazette number 93, of April 19, which establishes the regulatory bases for the granting of the Spanish Food Awards, states in its article 4.1 that the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will announce the awards by publishing them in the National Subsidies Database (http://www.pap.minhafp.gob.es/bdnstrans) and an extract of it in the Official State Gazette. First. Object and modalities. The purpose of this order is to announce, on a competitive basis, the Food of Spain Best Cheeses award, year 2026, with the purpose of helping to promote quality cheese. Modalities: a) Foods of Spain Award Best Cow Cheese b) Foods of Spain Award Best Sheep Cheese c) Foods of Spain Award Best Goat Cheese d) Foods of Spain Award Best Blended Cheese e) Foods of Spain Award Best Cheese with Molds or Second Blue Cheese. Participants and cheeses admitted to the competition. Establishments authorized to make cheese, as established in current legislation, that have their headquarters located within the national territory may participate in the prize. Cheese makers may compete in one or more modalities, but they may only participate with one sample per modality. The cheeses presented for the prize will be made by the contestant and must justify the annual production of a minimum number of 2,000 pieces or 3,000 kilos. Third. Application and form of presentation. Applications will be addressed to the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and will be presented, through the electronic registry of this Ministry, at its associated electronic headquarters (https://sede.mapa.gob.es) by means of a valid electronic certificate compatible with said electronic headquarters, completing the information required therein. If the beneficiaries are natural persons, they may choose to submit the applications at said associated electronic office or in person at the General Registry of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food or at any of the places provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1. The deadline for submitting applications will be from the day following the publication of the extract of the call in the "Official State Gazette" until April 15, 2026, inclusive. Sixth. Sample delivery. For each type of cheese, a sample will be sent that will be composed of a minimum of 2 whole pieces of cheese, with the total weight of the pieces presented being at least 3 kilograms. In the case of cheeses larger than 6 kilograms, a single piece may be provided. The cheese samples will be sent, postage paid, to the Santander Agri-Food Laboratory, c/ Concejo, s/n, 39011. Santander. The delivery dates for the samples will be from May 11 to 15, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
