Official description of the call

1st) Participants and registration: natural or legal persons may participate who previously submit their registration via electronic office (https://sede.arteixo.org/sxc/es/) before 2:00 p.m. on May 15, 2026. 2nd) Modalities and requirements: Traditional May: pyramidal, cross or cone structures. Its final structure must be between 1.50 and 2.00 m high. The materials must be natural, traditional and typical of Galicia (wood, esparto grass, broom, wild flowers, ferns, etc.). The use of plant species protected by current regulations or whose collection is restricted for conservation reasons is strictly prohibited. Artistic May: free recreation of everyday scenes, monuments or works of art. It is a free representation of May. Its final structure must be between 1.50 and 2.00 m high. Various materials are allowed. The works of both modalities must be unpublished and not contain elements that identify authorship. The construction and supply of the support for the May exhibition will be the exclusive responsibility of the participants. This support must meet the following requirements: Portability: The support must be designed for easy transportation and handling, allowing it to be moved to the exhibition area without hindering transit. Stability: It will be the responsibility of the participants to ensure that the support is firm and safe. Transportation and dimensions: The transportation of the Mayos will, in general, be at the expense and responsibility of the participants. Exceptionally, the City Council may offer logistical support to those who cannot guarantee transportation by their own means. To request this service, it must be specified on the registration form, detailing the technical needs for loading and unloading. In this case, the poles may not exceed 1.80 m in width, length and height, in order to ensure their viability in the municipal vehicle. Platforms: The City Council makes 9 platforms of 1.50 m (width) x 1.50 m (length) x 0.08 m (height) available to participants. Those participants who wish to use them for the prior preparation of mayonnaise must request it on the registration form, indicating the number of units required and the date of collection and take care of their transportation. Return of Mays: Those participants who wish to recover their composition may pick it up on Monday, June 1, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 3rd) Jury: It will be made up of three members of recognized technical solvency and chaired by the Department of Culture (or person to whom it delegates). A person assigned to the Ministry of Culture of the Arteixo City Council will act as secretary, with voice and without vote, and a person assigned to the Ministry of Culture of the Arteixo City Council will draw up the minutes. 4th) Financial Award (Prizes): The following non-cumulative prizes are established: Traditional Mayo Prize: €400 Mayo Artistic Prize: €400 Special Prize for Educational Centers: €400 Second prize: Up to a maximum of 10 prizes of €100 each, after technical validation by the jury. 5th) Logistics and Celebration: The mayos must be installed on Avenida del Balneario in the place determined by the organization on Friday, May 29, 2026 between 8:00 and 10:00 in the morning. The awards ceremony will take place at 1:00 p.m. on the same day. For reasons of space, participation is limited to a maximum of May 22 in order of registration. In the case of educational centers, participation will be limited to May 1 per educational stage and center (EI, EP, ESO, Baccalaureate, middle cycle and higher cycle of vocational education). 6th) Assessment: criteria will be taken into account such as the uniqueness of the mayo, the originality of the recreated idea, the manufacturing materials, the artisanal construction along with its complexity and finishes and the agreement with the idea presented. A scale of 0 to 3 points per criterion will be used. The total sum of each criterion and all the members of the jury will establish the order of the awards. In the case of a tie, the Jury President will decide. This will deliberate and issue its opinion at the end of the review and verification of the submitted awards and may declare any of the awards void if it does not meet adequate quality.
