Official description of the call

First. Beneficiaries: NATIONAL COMPETITION: Short films of majority production (minimum 51%) and/or Spanish direction. Films made after January 1, 2023 and that have not been registered in previous editions of ALCINE may be submitted to the contest. The exhibition copy format in HD file (Media for projection are: File containers: .mov or .mkv. File encoding: ProRes 422 and 422 HQ, H264 or AVI/NDXHD) or DCP. The maximum duration of the films will not exceed 40 minutes. Those films that exceed this duration may also be submitted for consideration, outside the National competition, in a section dedicated to medium and long-length films. Each author may present the number of short films they wish. EUROPEAN COMPETITION: Short films with majority production from the countries of the European continent. Short films of majority Spanish production and/or Spanish direction must be entered in the National Short Film Contest. The selection committee will choose some of these short films to also participate in the European Competition. Films with exhibition copy in format: Blu-Ray or HD file (The media for video projection are: File containers: .mov or .mkv. File encoding: ProRes 422 and 422 HQ, H264 or AVI/NDXHD) or DCP, made after January 1, 2023 and that have not been registered in previous editions of ALCINE. The maximum duration of the films will not exceed 40 minutes. Each author may present the number of short films they wish. Second. Purpose: The purpose of both competitions is to publicize and promote new filmmakers in Spanish and European cinema, showing the most representative short films of the annual production. The contest is presented both the works made in the different film schools of the continent, as well as independent works or works made by different film production companies. A committee will be in charge of selecting, from among all the short films received, those that will be part of the National Short Film Contest and, in turn, selecting the short films that will also go to the European Contest. The selected films will appear in the Film Festival catalog and will be shown in public sessions within the festival dates. Screening locations and dates will be announced through the official Festival program. Third. Regulatory Bases: Local Government Board Agreement of April 5, 2024, published on the official ALCINE website (www.alcine.org) Fourth. Amount: Maximum amount of the call: 20,300 euros NATIONAL COMPETITION: - “ALCINE” Awards: First Diamond: 5,000 euros and Second Diamond trophy: 2,000 euros and Third Diamond trophy: 1,000 euros and trophy ALCINE is a qualifying festival for the OSCAR and the Goya Awards in its Short Film category. The First Prize “Ciudad de Alcalá” will have the option of participating in the OSCAR selection, if it is a fiction or animated short film, and in the Goya, in any of its three categories. The selection in the ALCINE National Short Film Competition will count as one of those required by the Film Academy for its different short film categories. -“Community of Madrid” Award: 2,500 euros and trophy. Limited to short films whose production company is fiscally located in the Community of Madrid (In case of co-production, the participation of the production company based in Madrid must be at least 50%). -“Movistar +” Award: Movistar + will present a prize for the best short film, consisting of the purchase of the rights for its broadcast in Spain through the network. -Public Award: Department of Family, Children and Youth: 600 euros. Awarded by vote of the ALCINEFILA community. -ALCINE Kids Award.*: Department of Family, Children and Youth: 600 euros. Awarded by vote of the Children's Jury (The Prize can be for a film that participates in the National or European Contest). -Higher School of Image and Sound (CES) Award for best sound: €3,000 in sound post-production services for an upcoming job by the sound editor. -“Welab” Award for Best Photography: 1,000 euros in rental of audiovisual equipment for the making of a short film. It will be awarded to the Director of Photography of the winning short, who will have to enjoy it through a production company within the deadline
