Official description of the call
First. Beneficiaries. Individuals, over 18 years of age, who are authors of unpublished essays written in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese, which deal with the topic related to the African content of this call, may apply for the prize. Second. Object. The purpose of the award, of a single nature, is to contribute to the dissemination of knowledge about Africa by encouraging the research and dissemination of original and unpublished essays, written in Spanish, English, French or Portuguese, that use a balanced, diverse, updated narrative that is far from the stereotypical and biased images that, about the continent, predominate in the collective imagination. Third. Theme related to the African continent on which the essays presented must focus. The call must be about Decolonization. The debate on decolonization must be incorporated into Spanish foreign policy, since it covers everything: from what is known as the second decolonization on the African continent and the global institutional structure to anti-racism and the construction of democratic civil societies, passing through the deconstruction of academia and knowledge worldwide. Its most visible part is probably the contextualization and reinvention of museums, coupled with the restitution of looted cultural pieces, but it goes much further. It implies a change in the hierarchies that govern our relationships, in favor of a more just and egalitarian international panorama, in which all voices are respected and heard equally and unbalanced and abusive power relations are avoided. Colonization goes beyond the territorial and affects the economy, culture, laws or religion, which modulate the world we know. Decolonial thinking is, beyond the fashions that point towards an apparent diversity, a compass to understand the link between past and present and to be able to redraw possible futures. Decoloniality must also, therefore, be applied to the way we conceive geopolitics or security: its lens becomes a perspective that must be integrated into the work, discourses and proposals of Casa África in all areas. African voices must be part of that effort and listening to those voices must be a priority and mandatory. Room. Regulatory Bases. Order AUC/1114/2021, of September 15, published in BOE No. 247 of October 15, 2021. The regulatory bases are in turn on the Casa África website, at the following address: https://www.casafrica.es/es/portal-de-transparencia Quinto. Amount. The amount of the prize will be two thousand euros (€2,000.00). The prize will be subject to the corresponding withholdings. Sixth. Application Submission Deadline. The application submission period will remain open from February 2, 2025 to May 2, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. (GMT+0). Any questions or incidents in the participation process will be answered by email to Premio@casafrica.es. The submission of participation requests implies acceptance of the content of the regulatory bases and of this call. Seventh. Documentation of which the application consists. Applications for participation will conform to the model attached as an Annex to this call and which can also be downloaded on the Casa África Consortium web portal (http://www.casafrica.es/es). Along with the application and the essay, a copy of the National Identity Document, Residence Card or Passport of the applicant must be provided. The submission of applications for participation and complementary documentation must be done electronically, or in any of the places established in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations. However, and unless expressly opposed by the applicant, it will not be necessary to provide those documents that were already in the possession of Casa África or have been prepared by any other Administration. In this case, the person must indicate at what time and to which administrative body they presented the aforementioned documents. Exceptionally, if Casa África is unable to collect the aforementioned documents, it may request the participant's contribution again.
