Official description of the call
First. Object and purpose. “Calderón de la Barca” Theater Award for New Authors, on a competitive basis. The purpose of the Award is to recognize merit in dramaturgical creation by distinguishing the theatrical work of a new author. Second. Participants. New authors, both Spanish and nationals of other States of the European Union and the European Economic Area, may participate in the award call. A new author is understood to be a person who has not yet publicly released more than one work in exhibition circuits with box office returns. To this end, short plays will be excluded from this calculation. Those people who find themselves in any of the situations contemplated in article 13 of the LGS will not be able to obtain the status of beneficiaries. Third. Regulatory bases. Order CUL/330/2008, of January 28, which establishes the regulatory bases for the granting of the "Calderón de la Barca" Theater Award for New Authors (BOE no. 39, of February 14), modified by Order ECD/1232/2012, of May 30 (BOE no. 138, of June 9). Room. Amount. The financial endowment of the Prize is 10,000.00 euros charged to concept 488 of Program 24,107,335B, an amount that cannot be divided. Fifth. Application submission deadline. The deadline for submitting applications will be twenty calendar days from the day following the publication of this resolution in the Official State Gazette. Sixth. Other data. Participants must present original theatrical works, whose duration corresponds to that of a complete dramatic show. Short plays, adaptations, versions or rereadings of previously published or publicly exhibited texts will not be admitted. The texts may be written in any of the official languages of Spain. Theatrical texts awarded in other competitions will not be admitted, neither publicly nor those published in any format or media. Those works that are created entirely and exclusively by generative artificial intelligence cannot be awarded. Each applicant may participate in the call with a single work.
