Official description of the call

Order APA/379/2023, of April 8, published in the "Official State Gazette" number 93, of April 19, which establishes the regulatory bases for the granting of the Spanish Food Awards, includes in its article 4.1. that the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will announce the awards by publishing them in the National Subsidies Database (http://www.igae.pap.minhap.gob.es and an extract of the same in the Official State Gazette. First. Purpose and modalities. The purpose of this order is to announce, in a competitive competition regime, the Award “Foods of Spain Best Extra Virgin Olive Oils, campaign 2025-2026", with the purpose of helping to promote extra virgin olive oils. Modalities: a) “Foods of Spain Best Bitter Green Extra Virgin Olive Oil-Fruited” Award. b) “Foods of Spain Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Sweet Green Fruity” Award: c) “Foods of Spain Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil – Ripe Fruity” Award: For oils from organic production, classification by modalities is not established, there being a single modality “Foods of Spain Award Best Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil”. The oil that has obtained the best score in the tasting phase and in the physicochemical assessment will also have the Special Prize “Foods of Spain Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil”. Second. Participants and oils admitted to the competition. Authorized oil mills that have their headquarters in Spain and comply with the provisions of Order APA/379/2023, of April 8 and in the call, may participate in the award. Only bulk extra virgin olive oils from the 2025-2026 campaign will be admitted to the competition. Each oil mill will be able to compete with both conventionally produced and organically produced extra virgin olive oils. The sample will come from a homogeneous batch, the size of which will be at least 10,000 kilograms. If you participate with both, you must send an application for each of them. Third. Application, form and deadline for submission. 1. Legal entities will direct the requests to the head of the Ministerial Department and will be submitted electronically using a valid electronic certificate compatible with the electronic headquarters associated with the Department (https://sede.mapa.gob.es). In the case of natural persons, applications may be submitted electronically or by physical registration. 2. The maximum deadline for submitting applications will be from the day following the publication of the extract of this call in the “Official State Gazette” until December 10, 2025, inclusive. Room. Sample collection. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food will organize and coordinate the collection of samples at the facilities of the entity registered in the competition and the sealing of the corresponding deposit or deposits. For each oil submitted to the contest, eight final sample copies of 250 ml will be collected.
