Official description of the call
The city council of Vilanova i la Geltrú convenes the sixteenth edition of the MERCÈ LLIMONA I RAYMAT AWARD for illustrated albums, with the aim of promoting artistic and literary creation aimed at children. Participation in this Award implies full acceptance of the General Rules, approved by the plenary session of the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council on December 1, 2025. These rules can be consulted on the municipal website through the following link: https://www.vilanova.cat/cultura/premimercellimona CANDIDATURES One or more people, authors of text and illustration of any nationality, of legal age, may compete for this Award. The winners of previous editions and members of the jury are excluded. If an author has been awarded in previous editions, four calls will be necessary to be able to participate again. DEADLINESThe deadline for submitting works will begin the day after the publication of this Call on the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council website and will end on May 10, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Any candidature submitted outside this period will not be admitted. The jury's decision will be made public during the second half of September 2026 and will be disseminated through the usual municipal communication channels and other related media. The author or authors of the winning work will be informed during the month of July of the verdict and will have to release the work in its final form, in conditions suitable for its reproduction, within a maximum period of two months from the communication of the verdict. AWARDING THE PRIZE The award ceremony will take place at an event in Vilanova i la Geltrú during the second half of November. Coinciding with this event, the winning work will be presented once it has been published and a new edition of the Prize will be called. The Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council will disseminate the winning work through its communication channels and promote its dissemination in specialized media. The winning authors will be able to publicize the Award obtained, stating the corresponding reference to the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council. AWARD OF THE PRIZE A single prize is established consisting of the publication of the winning work, endowed with an amount of €7,000.00 gross, subject to the corresponding tax withholdings. The amount of the prize will not be effective until the author or authors deliver the work in the appropriate conditions for its reproduction and present the required documentation. To make the payment of the Prize effective, the following documentation will be necessary: - Identity documentation (NIF or equivalent).- Certificate of bank ownership.- Authorization to the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council to obtain certificates of being up to date with tax and Social Security obligations. The prize will be claimed within a maximum period of six months from the date of its award. If this period has elapsed without being claimed, it will be understood that the Prize is renounced. It will be necessary to apply to the prize the corresponding withholdings and payments on account that may be necessary, and it will be the responsibility of the winner, in any case, to declare the prize as necessary based on the tax to which it is subject. OBLIGATIONS The award-winning work will have to include in all its editions and dissemination media the distinctive “Mercé Llimona i Raymat Illustrated Album Award – XVI edition”. This reference will also have to appear in the case of public or stage exhibitions of the work, as well as in possible editions in other languages. PUBLICITY OF THE PRIZE AWARDEDThe prize awarded under this Call will be advertised through the National Subsidies Database (BDNS), in the Registry of Subsidies and Aid of Catalonia (RAISC) and on the Vilanova i la Geltrú City Council website.
