Grants for starting a business or registering as self-employed
Before generating any revenue, many entrepreneurs can access grants specifically designed for starting up. These differ from those aimed at businesses already running and usually have their own requirements and deadlines.
1. What sets start-up grants apart
They usually require recent registration around the time of the application, for example being registered for only a few months, and some make payment conditional on keeping the activity running for a minimum time.
It's common to find references to capitalizing unemployment benefit as a lump sum for those receiving it, and to contribution discounts like the well-known flat rate. Check on the SEPE or Social Security website whether a specific benefit applies automatically or needs a separate application.
2. What these calls usually ask for
A report or business plan, tax registration and registration under the relevant self-employed scheme, and sometimes a feasibility report. Regional or local calls often also require civil registration in the territory.
Almost all include a commitment to keep the activity going for a minimum period, usually a year or more, with full or partial repayment of the grant if you stop before that deadline.
3. How to find them without getting lost
Filter by territory and by "individuals" or "self-employed" as the recipient type, and also check municipal calls: they usually have fewer applicants competing for the same budget.
If your business has been running for a while, you're more likely to fit general grants for the self-employed and SMEs rather than start-up-specific ones.
