Official description of the call
First: Purpose and aid granting regime. The Betanzos City Council convenes the XII Literary Creation Contest that aims to promote creative writing and encourage literary creation in Galician. The topic is free and the texts must be presented in the Galician language. Originals must be typed double-spaced on one side in Times New Roman or Arial font, size 12 points or similar. The texts submitted may be short stories (with a maximum length of five pages) or poems (with a maximum length of five poems). Each participant may only submit one text to the contest. The criteria for awarding the prizes will be the quality and originality of the texts, as well as literary innovation, creativity in writing, linguistic correctness, and adaptation to the objectives of the contest. The aesthetic, linguistic and writing quality will be valued, as well as the originality of the text presented. The jury will be composed of a president and a secretary appointed for this purpose and a member of each of the Betanzos educational centers with participating students, as well as a writer of recognized prestige. The jury is empowered to make the decision it deems appropriate in the event of any unforeseen event not expressly included in these rules. The jury reserves the right to declare any of the awards announced void. Second: Beneficiary persons and entities. Three categories are established for participation: 1st category: ESO 2nd category: HIGH SCHOOL / TRAINING CYCLES 3rd category: OPEN The first category (ESO) and the second category (Baccalaureate and training cycles) are exclusively for the students of the Betanzos educational centers (IES Francisco Aguiar, IES As Mariñas and CPR Nosa Señora do Carme “Atocha”) and the theme is free. In the third category (Open) any person of legal age may participate. Third: Regulatory Bases. The regulatory bases for this aid have been published in the Official Gazette of the Province of A Coruña, BOP number 195 of Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Fourth: Amount, duration and purpose of the aid. There will be two award-winning texts in each of the categories, a first prize of 300 euros and a second prize of 150 euros. The appropriate tax withholdings will be applied to the amount of the prize. The jury's resolution period will be a maximum of fifteen days from the deadline for submitting the works. The name of the winners will be published on the City Council website (www.betanzos.gal) after the jury's decision. Likewise, the City Council will inform the winners of the time and place of the awards ceremony in an event that will be public. Fifth: Form, place and deadline for submitting applications. Participants will submit a single original, unpublished and individual work. The texts will be presented with a pseudonym and a title. To guarantee anonymity, no personal data or signatures may appear in the texts. The texts will be delivered in a closed envelope in which the pseudonym, the title of the text and the category (ESO, Baccalaureate and training cycles or Open) will appear on the outside. Inside this and in a closed envelope the personal data of the author will appear (name and surname, age, postal and email address, telephone number, course and school) and on the outside of this the pseudonym, the title of the text and the category (ESO, Baccalaureate and training cycles or Open) will be indicated. The deadline for submitting texts is open between November 4 and 28 (including these). The texts can be delivered to the secretariats of the IES Francisco Aguiar, the IES As Mariñas and the CPR Nosa Señora do Carme “Atocha”, to the Linguistic Normalization Service of the City Council or to the Alfonso Castelao Municipal Library.
