Official description of the call
First. Object and purpose of the call. With a triple purpose, that of encouraging artistic creation in the field of literature; create a promotion platform for writers from the District of Salamanca, and pay tribute to Carmen Martín Gaite, one of the most relevant writers of contemporary Spanish literature and who in this year 2025 will celebrate the centenary of her birth, the “Carmen Martín Gaite” Literary Contest is convened, in its edition corresponding to 2025. Second. Regulatory bases. This call will be governed by the provisions of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Subsidies (B.O.E. 18-11-2003). Royal Decree 887/2006, of July 21, which approves the Regulation of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Subsidies (B.O.E. 7-25-2006). The first additional provision of the Ordinance of General Regulatory Bases for the Granting of Subsidies by the City Council of Madrid and its Public Bodies, of October 30, 2013, modified by the Agreement of the Plenary of the City Council of Madrid, of May 31, 2017 and Ordinance 3/2023, of November 28, which modifies the Ordinance of Regulatory Bases for the Granting of Subsidies of the City Council of Madrid and its Public Bodies, of October 30, 2013, as well as what is included in this call. Third. Participants. All writers, of legal age, regardless of their nationality, who present original, unpublished works, not awarded in other competitions and written in Spanish. Participants will only be able to enter one of the two categories: Short story at the national level, intended for anyone residing in Spain and Short story for people registered in the District of Salamanca. Members of the jury will not be able to participate. Room. Registration. ¿ Electronically, by accessing the Electronic Headquarters of the City Council https://sede.madrid.es. In this case you must use one of the electronic identification systems accepted by Madrid City Council. Documentation that must accompany the electronic application in PDF format: 1.- The literary work (short story). 2.- Literary career of the author. In person, at any of the registry offices of the Madrid City Council, or through the other forms provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1 <(>,<)> of the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations (LPAC). Documentation that must accompany the in-person application: 1.- The literary work (short story) in paper format. 2.- Literary career of the author. Fifth.- Term. The deadline for submitting applications is established between April 28 and June 6, 2025. Registrations will not be accepted outside the established deadline, for which the date of the electronic certificates, registry offices will be taken into account. Sixth. Requirements that the works must meet. The technical characteristics of the works to be presented are established as follows: Short story, maximum 15 pages, in DIN A4 size (210 x 297 mm), free topic, font: Times New Roman, 12 points, line spacing: 1.5, margins 2.5. Original works must be submitted under a pseudonym, indicating the title of the work, the pseudonym and the category in which they participate in the header or on the cover of the work. Each participant may only present one work in one of the categories (residents anywhere in Spain or residents registered in the District of Salamanca), excluding those who present more works than allowed or in more than one category. Seventh. Valuation criteria for awarding prizes. The works will be evaluated taking into account their creativity, originality, style and literary quality<(>,<)> by each member of the jury. Seventh. Amount. The total amount of the prizes amounts to 7,000 euros. Eighth. Removal of works. Non-awarded works may be withdrawn by their authors until November 14, 2025. Ninth. Copyright. The authors who have been awarded assign the rights of reproduction, distribution and public communication of their winning work to the City Council of Madrid, District of Salamanca <(>,<)> for a period of one year from the publication of the jury's decision.
